Artist in the Schools
Want to add a unit on poetry or spoken word poetry to your classoom? Spoken word poetry is a powerful way for students to discover their unique voices through writing, performing, and listening. Na Mee brings over 15 years of poetry teaching experience into classrooms of all sizes and types. Through a series of 8-12 lessons, students will drawn on their own identities and experiences to explore poetic devices and performance techniques. By practicing and sharing in a supportive space (culminating in a showcase), they build a strong classroom community. Na Mee hopes to give students the tools to amplify their voices on and off the stage.
She has worked across Alaska in both rural and urban settings. She has been the artist-in-the-school for almost every school in the Juneau School District, plus home school groups! She would love to work with your classroom and your community, wherever you are.
NaMee has a Highly Qualified Teaching Artist Certificate (2010) and is on the JuneauTeaching Artist Roster.
What people are saying.

"Na mee was a teaching artist in my 3/4 learning community. Every single lesson was thoughtfully planned to support each writer to feel more comfortable with sharing their thinking. Na mee guided young writers towards a spoken word showcase that gave them a beautiful experience to share their poems with their learning community and their families."
— Jessica Curry, Teacher for Juneau School District (grades 3-4)
